Born in Fredericksburg, Ken Weidenfeller has been around agriculture all his life. His family was involved in commercial beef cattle production, hay production, and also operated a deer-hunting lease. Weidenfeller participated in Future Farmers of America and high school sports. He worked with his father and grandfather who owned an agricultural chemical dealership, animal health distribution center, and sold John Bean sprayers. In 1988, Weidenfeller graduated from Angelo State University with an Animal Science degree.

His career began with the Texas AgriLife Extension Service, serving as the Assistant County Extension Agent in Hill County. He worked closely with agriculture producers and Texas A&M specialists in conducting research test plots on a variety of row crop commodities. Weidenfeller joined TDA in 1992 as a Regulatory Inspector, where he worked primarily in the Weights and Measures Program for one year. His career continued as a Pesticide Inspector, Chief Pesticide Inspector and finally, Regional Director.

He is a life member of the Texas Agricultural Lifetime Leadership Program and member of the South Texas Farm and Ranch Club.
