Texas Daily Ag Market News Summary 04/17/2017

Feeder cattle auction reported higher prices; Futures higher.

Fed cattle cash trade inactive; Formula trades lower; Futures higher; Beef prices higher.

Cotton futures higher.

Grains and soybeans lower.

Milk futures higher.

Crude oil lower; Natural gas lower.

Stock markets higher.

                      

 

Texas feeder cattle auctions reported prices steady to $8 higher. April Feeder cattle futures were $1.25 higher, closing at $139.05 per hundredweight (cwt). The Texas fed cattle cash was inactive today. April Fed cattle futures were $1.05 higher, closing at $126.42 per cwt. Wholesale boxed beef values were higher, with Choice grade gaining $2.05 to close at $214.13 per cwt and Select grade gaining $1.30 to close at $200.78 per cwt. Estimated cattle harvest for the week totaled 108,000 down 7,000 from last week’s total and 1,000 from a year ago. Year-to-date harvest is down 1%.

 

Cotton prices were mixed with cash prices remaining at 76.00 cents per pound and May futures gaining 1.41 cents to close at 77.03 cents per pound.

 

Corn prices were lower with cash prices losing a nickel to close at $3.60 per bushel and May futures losing 4 cents to close at $3.67 per bushel. Grain Sorghum cash prices were 8 cents lower closing at $5.42 per cwt.

 

Wheat prices were lower with cash prices losing 9 cents to close at $3.36 per bushel and May futures losing 11 cents to close at $4.16 per bushel.

 

Milk prices were higher with April Class III milk futures gaining a penny to close at $15.24 per cwt.

 

Stock markets closed higher today, rebounding from last week’s on renewed optimism about corporate earnings reports and an easing geopolitical climate. May Crude oil futures were 53 cents lower, closing at $52.65 per barrel. Crude oil prices had their biggest daily decline since early March after new government information released showed rising output from shale producers, some analysts have said that this could undo all of the momentum that the market has seen in regard to stabilizing global prices.
