On June 4, 2026, the Texas Department of Agriculture under Commissioner Miller’s direction expanded its deployment of fly traps along the U.S.-Mexico border. These traps provide monitoring capabilities and collect data for ongoing risk assessments.

Commissioner Miller has also advocated for Screwworm Adult Suppression System (SWASS), a comprehensive eradication method. SWASS can attract and kill dense populations of screwworm flies and may be used in conjunction with sterile flies.

Texans can track New World screwworm detections and view trap locations using a map developed by the Texas Department of Agriculture. Suspected screwworm infestations may be reported by submitting the form found on the TDA New World Screwworm Detection Map.

The Texas Department of Agriculture is committed to safeguarding Texas agriculture with partners in government and industry, working collaboratively to end this threat.
