Daily Market Summary for September 30th

Slaughter Cattle:

As of 3:00 PM Monday, negotiated cash trading has been at a standstill in the Southern and Northern Plains. In the Western Cornbelt negotiated cash trading has been inactive on very light demand. Not enough trades for a market trend. The latest established market in all major feeding regions was last week. In the Southern Plains live cash trades moved at 103.00. In Nebraska live and dressed cash trades moved from 104.00-107.00 and mostly at 165.00, respectively. In Colorado live cash trades moved mostly at 106.00. In the Western Cornbelt live and dressed cash trades moved from 104.00-106.00 and mostly at 165.00.

Alberta Beef Producers Daily Report: Alberta CA

Alberta direct cattle sales last week saw light trade develop with weighted average steer and heifer prices closing the week at 139.50 and 139.00 respectively. Prices are 2.00-4.00 higher than the previous week. All reported cash sales traded locally. Looking at the non-fed market butcher cows butcher cows traded mostly steady through commercial auction facilities last week. In terms of volumes September is known as the calm before the storm. Non-fed supplies are expected to increase moving forward but will remain manageable.

Boxed Beef: 

Boxed beef cutout values steady on Choice and sharply lower on Select on light to moderate demand and moderate offerings. Choice rib and loin cuts steady while Select weak to lower. Select and Choice round cuts steady while chuck cuts weak to lower. Beef trimmings sharply lower on light demand and moderate offerings.
