Commissioner Miller Honors Rep. Anderson with ‘Top Hand’ Award (7/31/2015)

AUSTIN – Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller honored State Rep. Charles “Doc” Anderson with the coveted Top Hand Award. The Texas Department of Agriculture’s (TDA) Top Hand Award is a special honor given to individuals who have shown exemplary dedication to working for the betterment of Texas agriculture. In the days of old west cattle drives, the top hand was a trail boss’ most valued asset.

“Today, we honor Representative Anderson for his work to strengthen agriculture in our great state during the 84th legislative session,” Commissioner Miller said. “He went above and beyond in fighting for the farmers, ranchers, producers and consumers who help make agriculture the second largest industry in our state. No matter what we asked of him, Representative Anderson was willing to get to work and fight for Texas agriculture.”

Rep. Anderson is a veterinarian who is a six-term member of the Texas House of Representatives. He is currently serving as the vice chairman of the Texas House Committee on Agriculture and Livestock.

“I have to tip my hat to Representative Anderson, as I am eternally grateful to him for his support of the work we are doing here at the Texas Department of Agriculture,” Commissioner Miller said. “Representative Anderson is a valued friend who has set a model for others to follow. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award.”
