Texas Daily Ag Market News Summary 3/25/15

  • ·         Fed cattle cash trade inactive; formula trades lower; futures higher; beef prices higher.
  • ·         Cotton unchanged to lower.
  • ·         Grains and soybeans mixed.
  • ·         Crude oil higher; natural gas higher.
  • ·         Stock markets mostly lower.

 

Texas feeder cattle auctions quoted prices steady to $9 higher on Monday. Feeder cattle futures were lower. The Texas fed cattle cash trade remained inactive on Tuesday. Wholesale boxed beef values were higher. Estimated cattle harvest to date this week totaled 212,000 head, down 8k from last week and down 22K from a year ago. Year-to-date harvest is down 9.4%. Fed cattle futures were higher.

Cotton cash prices were unchanged and futures prices were lower on Tuesday. U.S. ginning numbers are expected to show a larger crop for 2014.

Corn and grain sorghum prices were higher with both continuing their three day-straight rebound from Thursday’s closing prices. Soybean prices were lower despite some unrest in Brazil.

Wheat prices were lower, with wet weather conditions and dollar strength influencing downward price movement.

Stock markets were mostly lower as the dollar gained strength. Crude oil prices rose $0.060 to $47.51 per barrel, moving closely with the dollar.
