Texas Daily Ag Market News Summary 4/8/15

  • Feeder cattle steady; futures lower.
  • Fed cattle cash trade inactive; formula trades lower; futures higher; beef prices mixed.

  • Crude oil higher; natural gas higher.

Texas feeder cattle auctions quoted prices steady. Feeder cattle futures were lower. The Texas fed cattle cash trade remained inactive on Tuesday. Wholesale boxed beef values were mixed, with Choice grade up to $256.98 per hundredweight (cwt), but Select grade down to $251.23 per cwt. Estimated cattle harvest to date this week totaled 206,000 head, down 12,000 from last week and 27,000 from a year ago. Year-to-date harvest is down 11.6%. Fed cattle futures were lower. 

Cotton prices were higher on Tuesday, with cash gaining 1.00 cent and futures gaining 1.08 cents to settle at 63.38 cents per pound and 66.42 cents per pound, respectively.

Corn and grain sorghum prices were lower with corn cash and futures prices each $0.02 lower. Soybean prices were $0.08 lower.

Wheat prices were $0.07 lower in both the cash and futures markets. 

Stock markets were lower. Crude oil prices rose $1.840 to settle at $53.98 per barrel.
