Texas Daily Ag News Market Summary 10/7/15

Feeder cattle auction quoted mixed prices of $2 to $5 higher and $8 to $15 lower; futures higher.

Fed cattle cash trade inactive; formula trades higher; futures higher; beef prices lower.

Cotton higher.

Grains and soybeans mixed.

Crude oil lower; natural gas higher.

Stock markets higher.

 

 

 

 

Texas feeder cattle auctions quoted mixed prices of $2 to $5 higher and $8 to $15 lower. Feeder cattle futures were $2.43 higher, closing at $184.95 per hundredweight (cwt). The Texas fed cattle cash trade was inactive yesterday. Wholesale boxed beef values were lower, with Choice grade losing $0.59 and Select grade losing $1.17 settling at $203.58 and $197.70 per cwt, respectively. Estimated cattle harvest for the week totaled 331,000 head, down 2,000 from last week’s total and down 11,000 from a year ago. Year-to-date harvest is down 3.2%. Fed cattle futures were $4.23 higher, closing at $129.35 per cwt.

 

Cotton prices were higher with cash prices gaining 0.25 cents, closing at 58.87 cents per pound. Futures prices gained 0.80 cents settling 61.94 cents per pound.

 

Corn and grain sorghum prices were mixed, with corn cash and futures prices both losing $0.02 settling at $4.06 and $3.96 per bushel, respectively.  Grain sorghum prices lost $0.05 to settle at $6.26 per cwt.

 

Wheat prices were lower with cash and futures prices both losing $0.08 settling at $4.26 per bushel and $5.08 per bushel, respectively.

 

Stock markets closed higher yesterday, pulled up by a rebounding in the price of health-care shares. Crude oil prices closed $0.72 lower yesterday, settling at $47.81 per barrel.
