Texas Daily Ag Market News Summary 10/14/15

Feeder cattle auction quoted prices $4 to $10 higher; futures higher.

Fed cattle cash trade inactive; formula trades lower; futures higher; beef prices higher.

Cotton lower.

Grains and soybeans lower.

Crude oil lower; natural gas higher.

Stock markets lower.

 

 

Texas feeder cattle auctions quoted prices $4 to $10 higher. Feeder cattle futures were $1.10 higher, closing at $189.70 per hundredweight (cwt). The Texas fed cattle cash trade was inactive yesterday. Wholesale boxed beef values were higher, with Choice grade gaining $2.15 and Select grade gaining $2.28 settling at $210.61 and $205.62 per cwt, respectively. Estimated cattle harvest for the week totaled 336,000 head, up 5,000 from last week’s total and 1,000 from a year ago. Fed cattle futures were $1.33 higher, closing at $133.75 per cwt.

 

Cotton prices were lower with cash prices dropping 0.37 cents to settle at 61.63 cents per pound and futures prices dropping 0.10 cents settling 63.76 cents per pound.

 

Corn and grain sorghum prices were lower, with corn cash and futures prices losing $0.06 settling at $3.89 and $3.79 per bushel, respectively.  Grain sorghum prices dropped $0.09 to settle at $5.97 per cwt.

 

Wheat prices were lower with cash and futures prices both losing $0.12, settling at $4.20 and $5.01 per bushel, respectively.

 

Stock markets closed lower yesterday, after a gloomy earnings report from Wal-Mart weighed down consumer focused companies. Crude oil prices closed $0.02 lower yesterday, settling at $46.64 per barrel.
