Texas Daily Ag Market News Summary 10/21/15

Feeder cattle auction quoted prices $3 to $10 higher; futures lower.

Fed cattle cash trade inactive; formula trades higher; futures lower; beef prices mixed.

Cotton higher.

Grains and soybeans higher.

Crude oil lower; natural gas lower.

Stock markets lower.

 

 

Texas feeder cattle auctions quoted prices $3 to $10 higher with an instance of $8 lower. Feeder cattle futures were $0.62 lower, closing at $194.25 per hundredweight (cwt). The Texas fed cattle cash trade was inactive yesterday. Wholesale boxed beef values were mixed, with Choice grade gaining $1.11 and Select grade losing $0.37 settling at $216.49 and $209.99 per cwt, respectively. Estimated cattle harvest for the week totaled 337,000 head, up 1,000 from last week’s total, but down 6,000 from a year ago. Year-to-date harvest is down 2%. Fed cattle futures were $0.28 lower, closing at $139.97 per cwt.

 

Cotton prices were higher with cash prices gaining 0.50 cents to settle at 62.13 cents per pound and futures prices gaining 0.45 cents settling 64.23 cents per pound.

 

Corn and grain sorghum prices were higher, with corn cash and futures prices gaining $0.04 settling at $3.91 and $3.81 per bushel, respectively. Grain sorghum prices gained $0.07 to settle at $6.00 per cwt.

 

Wheat prices were higher with cash and futures prices gaining $0.04, settling at $4.00 and $4.81 per bushel, respectively.

 

Stock markets closed lower yesterday. Crude oil prices closed $0.35 lower yesterday, settling at $45.20 per barrel.
