Texas Daily Ag Market News Summary 12/16/15

Feeder cattle auctions reported prices steady to $16 lower; futures lower.

Fed cattle cash trade active; futures lower; beef prices lower.

Cotton mixed.

Grains and soybeans lower.

Crude oil lower; natural gas lower.

Stock markets higher.

 

 

Texas feeder cattle auctions reported prices steady to $16 lower. Feeder cattle futures were $0.82 lower, closing at $147.70 per hundredweight (cwt). The Texas fed cattle cash trade was active today closing at $118.00 per cwt. Whole sale boxed beef values were lower with choice grade losing $0.31 to close at $196.90 per cwt; select grade lost $1.90 to close at $184.91 per cwt. Fed cattle futures were $0.33 lower, closing at $119.97 per cwt. Estimated cattle harvest for the week totaled 338,000 head, up 3,000 from last week and 13,000 from last year’s total. 

 

Cotton prices were mixed with cash prices gaining 0.04 cents to close at 61.87 cents per pound; March futures prices were down 0.06 cents to close at 63.25 cents per pound.

 

Corn prices were lower with cash prices losing $0.07 to close at $3.74 per bushel; March corn futures prices were down $0.07 to close at $3.70 per bushel. Grain Sorghum cash prices were down $0.16 to close at $5.68 per cwt.

 

Wheat prices were lower with cash and futures prices both losing $0.11 to close at $3.91 and $4.81 per bushel, respectively.

 

Stock markets were higher today, after the Federal Reserve announced it would raise short-term interest rates for the first time in nine years. Crude oil prices were lower, losing $1.83 closing at $35.52 per barrel.
