Texas Daily Ag Market News Summary 01/06/16

Feeder cattle auctions prices $5 to $20 higher; Futures higher.

Fed cattle cash trade inactive; Futures lower; Beef prices higher.

Cotton lower.

Grains and soybeans higher.

Crude oil lower; Natural gas lower.

Stock markets lower.

 

 

Texas feeder cattle auctions reported priced steady to $20 higher per cwt. Feeder cattle futures were $0.55 higher, closing at $168.32 per hundredweight (cwt). The Texas fed cattle cash trade was inactive today. Whole sale boxed beef values were higher with choice grade gaining $5.72 to close at $228.03 per cwt; select grade gained $4.07 to close at $220.68 per cwt. Fed cattle futures were $0.25 lower, closing at $136.52 per cwt. Estimated cattle harvest for the week totaled 315,000 head, up 6,000 from last week and down 6,000 from last year’s total. Year-to-date harvest is down 1%.

 

Cotton prices were lower with cash prices losing 0.75 cents to close at 60.37 cents per pound; March futures prices were lower, dropping 0.68 cents, to close at 62.00 cents per pound.

 

Corn prices were steady with cash prices remaining at $3.57 per bushel; March corn futures were steady as well, remaining at $3.53 per bushel.

 

Wheat prices were higher with cash and futures prices both gaining $0.01, to close at $3.71 and $4.61 per bushel, respectively.

 

Stock markets were lower today, as oil prices took another steep fall, tumbling below $35 a barrel, the lowest levels since 2008. Crude oil prices were lower, losing $2.00 to close at $33.97 per barrel.
