Texas Daily Ag Market News Summary 01/13/16

Feeder cattle auctions prices steady to $10 higher with one location reporting $4 to $8 lower; Futures higher.

Fed cattle cash trade inactive; Formula trades higher; Futures lower; Beef prices higher.

Cotton futures higher.

Grains and soybeans mixed.

Crude oil higher; Natural gas higher.

Stock markets lower.

 

 

Texas feeder cattle auctions reported priced steady to $10 higher with one location reporting $4 to $8 lower. Feeder cattle futures were $0.55 higher, closing at $160.77 per hundredweight (cwt). The Texas fed cattle cash trade was inactive today. Whole sale boxed beef values were higher with choice grade gaining $0.03 to close at $235.21 per cwt; select grade gaining $1.47 to close at $229.08 per cwt. Fed cattle futures were $0.50 higher, closing at $132.10 per cwt. Estimated cattle harvest for the week totaled 332,000 head, up 17,000 from last week and up 5,000 from last year’s total. 

 

Cotton cash prices were steady remaining at 60.37 cents per pound; March futures were higher gaining 0.55 cents to close at 62.14 cents per pound.

 

Corn prices were higher with cash prices gaining $0.02 to close at $3.62 per bushel; March futures prices gained $0.01 to close at $3.58 per bushel. Grain sorghum cash prices were higher, gaining $0.15 to close at $5.62 per cwt.

 

Wheat prices were lower with cash prices losing $0.04 to close at $3.86 per bushel; March futures prices dropped $0.05, to close at $4.76 per bushel.

 

Stock markets were lower today, as a broad sell off in stocks dragged the Dow Jones to its lowest levels since September. Crude oil prices were higher, gaining $0.04 to close at $30.48 per barrel.
