Texas Daily Ag Market News Summary 01/20/16

Feeder cattle auctions prices were steady to $15 lower, with one location reporting prices up to $2 higher ; Futures lower.
Fed cattle cash trade inactive; Formula trades lower; Futures lower; Beef prices higher.
Cotton lower.
Grains and soybeans lower.
Crude oil lower; Natural gas higher.
Stock markets lower.

Texas feeder cattle auctions reported prices steady to $15 lower. Feeder cattle futures were $1.55 lower, closing at $155.00 per hundredweight (cwt). The Texas fed cattle cash trade was inactive today. Whole sale boxed beef values were higher with choice grade gaining $0.02 to close at $229.95 per cwt; select grade gained $0.44 to close at $224.14 per cwt. Fed cattle futures were $2.05 lower, closing at $127.25 per cwt. Estimated cattle harvest for the week totaled 329,000 head, down 3,000 from last week and down 5,000 from last year’s total. 

Cotton cash prices were lower, losing 0.50 cent to close at 60.75 cents per pound; March futures were lower losing 0.50 cents to close at 61.97 cents per pound.

Corn prices were higher with cash price gaining $0.02 to close at $3.73 per bushel; March futures prices were higher gaining $0.01 closing at $3.69 per bushel. Grain sorghum prices were lower, losing $0.06 to close at $5.70 per cwt

Wheat prices were lower with cash price losing $0.04 to close at $3.78 per bushel; March futures prices losing $0.06 to close at $4.67 per bushel.

Stock markets were lower today, as a slump in oil prices affected the market. Crude oil prices were lower losing, $1.91 to close at $26.55 per barrel.
