Texas Daily Ag Market News Summary 01/27/16

Feeder cattle auctions prices $3 to $8 higher; Futures lower.

Fed cattle cash trade inactive; Formula trades lower; Futures higher; Beef prices lower.

Cotton lower.

Grains and soybeans mixed.

Crude oil higher; Natural gas higher.

Stock markets lower.

 

 

Texas feeder cattle auctions reported prices $3 to $8 higher per cwt. Feeder cattle futures were $0.18 lower, closing at $160.92 per hundredweight (cwt). The Texas fed cattle cash trade was inactive today. Whole sale boxed beef values were lower with choice grade losing $1.68 to close at $221.33 per cwt; select grade lost $1.40 to close at $215.02 per cwt. Fed cattle futures were $2.70 higher, closing at $135.72 per cwt. Estimated cattle harvest for the week totaled 333,000 head, up 4,000 from last week and down 5,000 from last year’s total. Year-to-date harvest is down 1%. 

 

Cotton prices were lower with cash prices losing 0.50 cents to close at 59.75 cents per pound; March futures lost 0.55 cents to close at 60.86 cents per pound.

 

Corn prices were mixed with cash price losing $0.01 to close at $3.74 per bushel; March futures prices were steady to remain at $3.69 per bushel. Grain Sorghum cash prices were steady remaining at $5.69 per cwt.

 

Wheat prices were lower with cash prices losing $0.08 to close at $3.83 per bushel; March futures prices lost $0.09 to close at $4.68 per bushel.

 

Stock markets were lower today, as the U.S. Federal Reserve issued concerns about global economic growth. Crude oil prices were higher gaining, $0.85 to close at $32.30 per barrel.
