Texas Daily Ag Market News Summary 04/22/16

Feeder cattle auctions reported prices $5 to $18 lower; Futures lower.

Fed cattle cash trade inactive; Formula trades lower; Futures lower; Beef prices lower.

Cotton mixed.

Grains and Soybeans lower.

Milk futures steady.

Crude oil higher; Natural gas higher.

Stock markets steady.

 

 

Texas feeder cattle auctions reported prices $5 to $18 lower. Texas Weekly Direct reported prices $2 to $5 lower. Feeder cattle futures were $1.50 lower, closing at $147.95 per hundredweight (cwt). The Texas fed cattle cash trade was inactive today. Whole sale boxed beef values were lower with choice grade losing $0.41, to close at $220.31 per cwt and select grade losing $2.08 to close at $210.69 per cwt. Fed cattle futures were $1.78 lower, closing at $124.72 per cwt. Estimated cattle harvest for the week totaled 556,000 head up 19,000 from last week and up 12,000 from last year’s total.

 

Cotton prices were mixed with cash prices gaining 0.50 cents to close at 57.87 cents per pound and May futures losing 0.41 cents to close at 63.08 per pound.

 

Corn prices were lower with cash prices losing $0.12 to close at $3.74 per bushel and May futures losing $0.13 to close $3.72 per bushel. Grain Sorghum cash prices were lower, dropping $0.22 to close at $5.39 per cwt.

 

Wheat prices were lower with cash prices losing $0.26 to close at $3.83 per bushel and May futures prices losing $0.27 to close at $4.62 per bushel.

 

Milk prices were steady with April Class III Milk futures remaining at $13.65 per cwt.

 

Stock Markets were steady today, as earnings reports were not as strong as hoped for. Crude oil prices were higher, with June Crude oil futures gaining $0.55 to close at $43.73 per barrel.
