Slaughter Cattle:  

So far for Monday trading has been at a standstill in the Southern and Northern Plains. In the Western Cornbelt trading has been inactive on very light demand. Not enough trades for a market trend. Last week in the Southern Plains and Colorado live cash trades moved at mostly 111.00. For the prior week in Nebraska live cash trades moved mostly from 110.00-111.50 and dressed trades mostly at 175.00. For the previous week in the Western Cornbelt live cash trades moved mostly at 110.00 and dressed trades moved mostly from 174.00-176.00.

Alberta Beef Producers Daily Report:

Alberta direct cattle sale last week saw light trade develop with weighted average steer and heifer prices closing the week at 142.75 and 141.00 respectively. Prices are 3.00 lower than the previous week. Over the past four weeks fed prices have dropped 12.00 and are now only about 0.50 shy of annual lows that were set in June. Looking at the non-fed market butcher cows traded 3.00-4.00 lower through commercial auction facilities.

National Grain Market Summary:

Compared to Friday, cash bids for wheat and sorghum were lower, corn was mixed, and soybeans were higher.  Export loadings for the week ending August 9th were mixed.  Grain shipments were at the top end or above trade estimates with 49.7 million bu on corn and 17 million bu for wheat.  Soybean loadings fell short of trade expectations at 21.3 million bu.  All totals were short of what is needed on a weekly basis to reach yearly objectives.
