Alberta Beef Producers Daily Report: Alberta CA

Alberta direct cattle sales Thursday saw light trade develop with dressed sales reported at 232.00 delivered. Sales are 2.00-6.00 higher than the previous week. Buyers were indicating cattle that they bought this week would not be lifted for 3-4 weeks. Cash to futures basis levels did weaken this week but remain stronger than the five-year historical average. Western Canadian steer carcass weights continue to seasonally increase. Even though slaughter volumes have been large over the past two months there is a scene out there that feedlot inventories are slowly losing current.
