AUSTIN – Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is proud to announce the kickoff of National Farmers Market Week, taking place this week from August 3–9, 2025. This annual celebration features the outstanding farmers markets across Texas and the essential role they play in supporting local Texas producers and fostering healthier communities.

“Our certified, GO TEXAN farmers markets are the best Texas has to offer,” said Commissioner Miller. “They provide fresh, healthy food grown right here in the Lone Star State, often just a few miles from where it’s sold. More than half of our vendors travel less than 10 miles to reach their market. You can’t find a better example of local support in action.”

Farmers markets generate millions of dollars for local producers across the Lone Star State, helping keep small farms in business while delivering fresh Texas-grown goods to consumers. These markets create jobs at three times the rate of larger wholesale operations and boost foot traffic for nearby local businesses.

“Behind every item on a grocery store shelf is a farmer or rancher,” Miller added. “Farmers markets give you the opportunity to meet those producers in person, shake their hand, and buy straight from the source. It’s not just a purchase, it’s a personal connection.”

In addition to their economic impact, farmers’ markets promote healthy lifestyles by offering fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, baked goods, and locally raised meats, while also encouraging seasonal, sustainable food consumption.

“When you support your local farmers market, you’re investing in Texas agriculture, in small businesses, and in the health of your community,” Commissioner Miller added.
