Commissioner Miller Praises U.S. Supreme Court Approval of Settlement on Rio Grande Water (6/2/2026)

AUSTIN – Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller today praised the U.S. Supreme Court's approval of a historic Rio Grande water settlement secured by Attorney General Ken Paxton, calling it a major victory for Texas agriculture and the millions of Texans who rely on the river's waters. The agreement protects Texas' rightful share of Rio Grande water, strengthens enforcement of longstanding interstate obligations, and helps safeguard a critical resource for farmers, ranchers, rural communities, and families across South Texas.

The following statement may be attributed to Commissioner Sid Miller:

"This is a major victory for Texas farmers, ranchers, and families who depend on the Rio Grande to put food on the table and keep their operations running. For too long, Texas has been forced to fight for water that rightfully belongs to us under the Rio Grande Compact.

I commend Attorney General Ken Paxton for securing this historic settlement that protects Texas water rights and holds our neighbors accountable. Water is the lifeblood of Texas life and agriculture, and this agreement helps ensure our producers have the resources they need to continue feeding and clothing our state, our nation, and the world."
