Commissioner Miller Joins Select Milk Producers to Announce Plans For Milk (10/30/2015)

LITTLEFIELD - Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller joined Select Milk Producers, Inc. today to announce the acquisition of the former Littlefield Denim Mill, which will be converted into a state-of-the-art milk processing plant. The new facility will create 135 full-time jobs and help bolster the local economy.

“The key to ensuring our agriculture industries and rural communities continue to succeed is innovation,” Commissioner Miller said. “That’s exactly what these dairy farmers are doing, and it’s to the benefit of rural Texas economies. Rather than hauling locally produced raw milk to faraway places, Select Milk Producers is keeping it local. The best part is that they’re creating new jobs and additional wealth for the Southwest Plains and Panhandle.”

Agriculture is a $115 billion industry in Texas. The Lone Star State is comprised mostly of rural communities. The Texas Department of Agriculture is committed to supporting economic development in both large and small communities across the state.

“Texas farmers and ranchers are responsible for producing the food and fiber that sustains our lives,” Commissioner Miller said. “I’m excited to see a Texas company investing in its community and working to produce a quality product right here in the Lone Star State.”
