Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller Requests Applications for Texas Organic Agricultural Industry Advisory Board (12/3/2015)

AUSTIN - Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller today announced an open call for applications to fill seats on the Texas Organic Agricultural Industry Advisory Board. The board was created in 2007 by the Texas Legislature to assist the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) in assessing the state of the organic agricultural industry and developing recommendations to promote and expand the organic industry. Additionally, the board is responsible for developing statewide organic agriculture product education and awareness campaigns.

“The Organic Agricultural Industry Advisory Board is an integral part of leading the charge to promote the organic agriculture industry in Texas,” Commissioner Miller said. “By working together, we have been able to draw on the collective expertise of our board members to raise awareness about this dynamic segment of the industry and foster continued growth in this area of Texas agriculture.”

The Texas Organic Agricultural Industry Advisory Board is comprised of:

• Four organic producers,
• Two organic retailers,
• An organic distributor,
• An organic processor,
• A representative from a Texas trade association for the organic agricultural industry,
• A representative from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service,
• A technical advisor employed by an institution of higher education or a government agency as a researcher, instructor or other qualified position, and
• A representative from the public.

All board member positions are currently open. TDA encourages individuals to apply for these positions and work for the betterment of Texas agriculture.
