Commissioner Miller Recertifies City of Lampasas as a Go Texan Certified Retirement Community (1/11/2016)

AUSTIN - Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller today visited the city of Lampasas to announce its recertification as a GO TEXAN Certified Retirement Community (CRC) for an additional five years. The Texas Department of Agriculture’s CRC program helps local communities attract potential residents to Texas retirement living. Lampasas was first certified as a CRC member in 2009.

“It’s exciting to announce that Lampasas has renewed its status as a GO TEXAN Certified Retirement Community for another five years,” Commissioner Miller said. “Communities that receive this designation are important drivers in their regional economies and provide tremendous value to the lives of their residents and retirees. Lampasas is a great place to call home with plenty of things to do, and I’m excited for folks to discover this great community.”

Located in Central Texas, Lampasas is about 30 minutes from Fort Hood and an hour from Austin, and is known as the northern gateway to the Texas Hill Country. Lampasas is home to 14 hotels, Texas Hill Country Bike Tours, four wineries and Hanna Springs Sculpture Garden. The famous Hancock Springs Free Flow Pool, which is the oldest in the state, also calls Lampasas home.

“The city of Lampasas is very pleased to continue to be designated as a Certified Retirement Community,” Lampasas Mayor Christian Toups said. “Through the Certified Retirement Community program, more retirees have been encouraged to make their homes here in Lampasas. The city continues to see new construction in direct response to the increase of retirees, as well as a positive economic impact. Being part of the GO TEXAN Certified Retirement Community program has enriched the cultural diversity of our community by bringing people from all over Texas and the U.S. to retire here in Lampasas. The city of Lampasas is  excited to be a part of such an invaluable program for another five years.”

More about the GO TEXAN CRC Program

This program is funded by GO TEXAN CRC members. It was created to encourage retirement in Texas and boost the state’s economy. On average, migrant retirees contribute $732 million annually to the Texas economy. Additionally, retirees provide a dependable part- and full-time workforce and volunteer pool.

To become a certified retirement community, each community must complete a rigorous application process, including a retiree desirability assessment. The GO TEXAN stamp of approval ensures each certified community has demonstrated that it can meet the living, employment/volunteer, health, entertainment, education and safety needs of its citizens and visitors — all things that make Texas a great place to retire.
