Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller Comments on Reopening of Brazilian Market To U.S. Beef Exports (8/2/2016)

Today, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced an agreement with Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply to allow U.S. beef and beef products into to the Brazilian market for the first time since 2003. USDA said both countries will immediately begin updating their administrative procedures in order to allow trade to resume. The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) launched a global initiative under Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller to bring more Texas products to international markets and secure international trade opportunities for Texas producers.

"Thanks to the efforts of TDA and others, not only will Olympic athletes be competing in Brazil, but Texas ranchers will be, too,” Commissioner Miller said. “The ability for Texas to compete in the Brazilian beef market is a victory not only for our beef industry, but the state economy as a whole."
