Commissioner Sid Miller Activates TDA Relief Efforts for Producers Impacted by Winter Storm Fern
Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller today announced that the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) has activated relief efforts to assist producers, ranchers, and agribusinesses affected by Winter Storm Fern. Miller is also urging Texans and organizations statewide to support recovery efforts through donations to the State of Texas Agriculture Relief (STAR) Fund.  [More]

Commissioner Miller Calls on Trump to Name CAIR a Terrorist Organization
A day after I criticized the Austin City Council for hosting its own CAIR-Austin Day on January 22, Governor Abbott has called on Attorney General Ken Paxton to move forward with eliminating CAIR-Texas’s nonprofit status. We agree that this organization poses a dire threat to Texas, and I have complete faith in my friend Ken Paxton to do what must be done to protect Texans and uphold the rule of law.  [More]

Commissioner Miller Statement on Corpus Christi's Water Crisis
Texas is running out of water, and the crisis in Corpus Christi is the canary in the coal mine. Coastal communities like Corpus sit at the end of the line. When upstream supplies drop or saltwater pushes in, South Texas families, farmers, ports, and industries are the first to take the hit. This is a warning shot and ignoring it is not an option.  [More]

Commissioner Miller Praises Pause in Federal Equine Overreach
As someone who has spent a lifetime around horses and as Texas Agriculture Commissioner, I welcome USDA-APHIS’s decision to postpone implementation of the Horse Protection Act amendments. Folks who work with horses understand that animal welfare and common sense must go hand in hand.  [More]

Commissioner Miller Responds to Governor Abbott’s Statewide New World Screwworm Disaster Declaration
I’m glad to see the urgency from the governor’s office matching the seriousness of this threat. The Governor’s disaster declaration gives his task force greater authority, resources, and speed needed to confront the growing threat posed by the New World screwworm. This is a serious risk to our livestock industry and one that the Texas Department of Agriculture has been preparing for through our own heightened surveillance, coordination, and response planning. The New World screwworm is inching closer to Texas each and every day, and we must be proactive in responding to this threat. This fight requires every available resource to be thrown at it without delay, and TDA will continue to work alongside our state and federal partners to protect our livestock, pets, wildlife, and Texas communities.  [More]
