Angela Olige Named an Assistant Commissioner at Texas Department of Agriculture (3/10/2015)

AUSTIN – Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller today announced Angela Olige will serve as Assistant Commissioner of Food and Nutrition at the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA).

“Partnering with schools, day care centers and agriculture producers around our state to promote healthy living is a top priority at the Texas Department of Agriculture,” Commissioner Miller said. “Angela has a wealth of experience and knowledge that will continue to drive the agency’s mission to encourage healthy lifestyles for children and adults.”

Olige previously served as chief administrator of TDA’s Food and Nutrition Division. Prior to her time at TDA, she worked as a finance and budget director for the Clark County School District in Las Vegas. She holds an accounting degree from the University of Houston.

As the Assistant Commissioner of Food and Nutrition, Olige will oversee business operations, nutrition education and outreach, program compliance, and administrative and operational budgets for all nutrition programs.

“I am honored to take on the role of Assistant Commissioner,” Olige said. “Administration of the nutrition programs affords me the privilege of honoring Texas' past, helping to support its present and solidifying its future. The Texas Department of Agriculture is making a positive difference and working to support local efforts.”

TDA’s Food and Nutrition Division administers 12 federal child and special nutrition programs in Texas. TDA supports nutrition providers by helping ensure accountability and the efficient use of taxpayer dollars to nourish Texans in need. Nutrition programs promote eating right for Texans of every age and background, as well as helping individuals build a bridge to success.
