Commissioner Miller Honors Nadia Davila of Colorado High School With ‘GROW’ Award (10/16/2015)

AUSTIN - Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller today honored Nadia Davila, a senior from Colorado High School in Colorado City, Texas, as the winner of the Texas Department of Agriculture’s monthly GROW award. The award Gives Recognition for Outstanding Work to middle and high school students who demonstrate leadership and excellence inside and outside the classroom.

“I have to tip my hat to Nadia for earning this month’s GROW award,” Commissioner Miller said. “Thanks to young leaders like Nadia the future of Texas looks brighter than ever. I couldn’t be more proud to honor Nadia, as she symbolizes everything I look for in a great leader — a strong work ethic, dedication to community and family and a can-do attitude.”

Nadia was chosen from a large group of Texas students for demonstrating leadership in her school activities as well as her commitment to community service. Nadia is the vice president of the Colorado Career Academy, a program that allows students to take college courses in high school free of charge. She is also in the Gifted and Talented Program.

“I am very honored and blessed to receive this award and hope that I can continue to work hard to serve and make my community proud. I wanted to get involved in many different activities so I have had to learn how to manage my time to continue participating in as much as I have.” Davila said upon receiving the award. “There have been a lot of obstacles to overcome when it comes to making my own decisions and setting my priorities so as not to follow the crowd, growing up so to speak. I have learned so much from having to make choices for what is most important and will help me be successful in my career.”

Nadia has earned both her Greenhand and Chapter FFA Degrees and is now working toward completing her Lone Star FFA Degree. Nadia shows sheep and goats, and has had two grand champion goats, two reserve champion goats and six showmanship wins at county competitions.

Nadia plans to attend Texas A&M University to pursue a degree in Allied Health. She intends to become a Physician's Assistant and specialize in pediatrics to help improve children’s health.
