Commissioner Miller Celebrates Renewal of Certified Retirement Community Designation for City of Plainview (12/1/2015)

AUSTIN - Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller today visited Plainview to celebrate its recertification as a GO TEXAN Certified Retirement Community (CRC) for an additional five years. The Texas Department of Agriculture’s CRC program helps local communities attract potential residents to Texas retirement living.

“It’s exciting to announce that Plainview has renewed its status as a GO TEXAN Certified Retirement Community for another five years,” Commissioner Miller said. “Communities like Plainview offer retirees a great place to call home and plenty of things to do. Plus, retirees have a major impact on the areas they live in through their community service and contributions to local businesses. Texas is a great place to call home, and I’m excited for folks to discover great communities like Plainview.”

There’s no shortage of activities to participate in and sights to see in Plainview. The community offers plenty of places to stay, including nine hotels and six RV parks. Plan to visit one of the city’s attractions, whether it’s at the Centennial Circle of Honor, the Museum of the Llano Estacado or Plainview Point Monument. Enjoy the many nearby outdoor activities, such as Palo Duro Canyon and Caprock Canyon state parks.

“The city of Plainview is honored to be recertified as a GO TEXAN Certified Retirement Community through the Texas Department of Agriculture,” said Plainview Mayor Wendell Dunlap. “Plainview has many wonderful opportunities for retirees with excellent health care options, a low cost of living, entertainment and much more. We are excited to have this opportunity to partner with GO TEXAN to market our community to everyone looking for a great place to retire in Texas.”

More about the GO TEXAN CRC Program

This program is funded by GO TEXAN CRC members. It was created to encourage retirement in Texas and boost the state’s economy. On average, migrant retirees contribute $732 million annually to the Texas economy. Additionally, retirees provide a dependable part- and full-time workforce and volunteer pool.

To become a certified retirement community, each community must complete a rigorous application process, including a retiree desirability assessment. The GO TEXAN stamp of approval ensures each certified community has demonstrated that it can meet the living, employment/volunteer, health, entertainment, education and safety needs of its citizens and visitors — all things that make Texas a great place to retire.
