COMMISSIONER MILLER PARTNERS WITH USDA TO AWARD $11.5 MILLION TO STRENGTHEN FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN INFRASTRUCTURE
AUSTIN – Today, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller announced the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) has a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) under the Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Program (RFSI). Through this agreement, USDA and Texas are working together to offer $11.5 million in competitive grant funding for projects designed to build resilience across the middle of the supply chain. STATEMENT BY TEXAS AGRICULTURE COMMISSIONER SID MILLER ON PARAGUAYAN BEEF IMPORTS
“Today, I joined fellow state agriculture leaders from Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Wyoming to express strong opposition to importing beef from Paraguay. The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) decision to allow Paraguayan beef imports threatens our nation’s agriculture industry. We are calling on Secretary Vilsack to pause the implementation of this rule until a more reliable risk assessment can be completed."  [More]

COMMISSIONER SID MILLER SUPPORTS RURAL MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS
AUSTIN- Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has united with country music artist Jenna Paulette to encourage rural Texans to make mental health a top priority. Texas farmers and ranchers face an increased risk for suicide and mental health challenges. This is often due to social and geographical isolation, weather variability such as extreme droughts or flash floods, limited access to health services, and fluctuating commodity prices. The Texas Department of Agriculture’s AgriStress Helpline provides 24/7 support to these individuals who are struggling and may need help.  [More]

COMMISSIONER SID MILLER AWARDED $500,000 IN FUNDING FOR AGENCY'S GLOBAL TRADE EFFORT
AUSTIN- Today, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller announced the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) awarded $500,000 in grant funding to the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) through the State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) grant program. CHILD AND ADULT CARE FOOD PROGRAM SUPPORTS HEALTHY LIFESTYLES IN THE LONE STAR STATE
AUSTIN- Today, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller encouraged Texans to learn more about accessing healthy meals in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) administers this federally funded program for approximately 13,000 CACFP sites in the Lone Star State including adult day care centers, childcare centers, home-based day cares and afterschool programs. COMMISSIONER MILLER ANNOUNCES TDA WILL RECEIVE 12.2 MILLION DOLLARS FROM USDA TO STRENGTHEN LOCAL FOOD SYSTEMS

COMMISSIONER MILLER ANNOUNCES $1.4 MILLION IN USDA FUNDING TO STRENGTHEN STATE’S SPECIALTY CROPS
AUSTIN- Today, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) awarded over $1.4 million in Specialty Crop Block Grant Program (SCBGP) funding to Texas. This grant allows TDA to fund projects that will open new market opportunities for Texas specialty crop producers and increase the state’s competitiveness of specialty crop products.  [More]
