Commissioner Miller Issues Statement Marking National And Texas Ag Day (3/15/2016)

AUSTIN - Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller today issued the following statement about the significance of Texas agriculture on our lives, as we mark National Ag Day 2016. Gov. Greg Abbott has also declared today as Ag Day in Texas to coincide with the national celebration.

“Texas agriculture matters because it provides food, fiber and jobs for Texans. For more than a decade, Texas has been the nation’s top exporting state, and collectively, agriculture adds more than $100 billion to our economy each year.

“Agriculture plays a direct role in our daily lives, ensuring we have food on our plates and clothes on our backs. Our family, friends and neighbors are employed in ag-related jobs, and the rest of the world depends on Texas agriculture for their basic necessities. The Lone Star State is one of the most agriculturally diverse states in the nation, and that’s evident by the variety of agricultural goods produced right here at home.

“Every day is ag day at the Texas Department of Agriculture and for the farmers and ranchers who work hard to preserve the land and be good stewards of our natural resources. Today gives us a special opportunity to thank the men and women of agriculture for their dedication to feeding the world. I hope all Texans will join me today in spreading the word that Texas agriculture matters.”
