COMMISSIONER MILLER KICKS OFF TEXAS FARM FRESH JUMP WITH JILL LIVE TOUR FOR NEW SCHOOL YEAR
Assemblies set to thrill children at 20 Texas schools with musical lessons about healthy lifestyles and Texas agriculture
AUSTIN – Today, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller announced the start of this school year’s Texas Farm Fresh Jump with Jill Live Tour, a unique, interactive assembly that makes nutrition education fun and exciting. The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) is bringing the live-action show to 20 elementary schools in school districts in North and Southeast Texas this October, as well as the State Fair of Texas on Oct 13.
“I am proud to have the nationally known Jump with Jill team join TDA in support of our Farm Fresh Initiative,” said Commissioner Miller. “I want Texas children to enjoy learning how to be healthy by incorporating physical activity, good nutrition and Texas agriculture into their lives. The Texas Farm Fresh Jump with Jill Live Tour offers a complete package by combining music and fun to teach kids lifelong lessons about good nutrition that they will remember for years to come.”
Jump with Jill appears in schools across the country and turns nutrition education into a live concert experience complete with rock ’n’ roll music and dance. The assemblies transport kids to a place where healthy living is not just the smart thing to do, but the cool thing to do. The songs in the Texas Farm Fresh Jump with Jill Live Tour teach the audience why everyone should eat breakfast and how eating nutritious foods from the Lone Star State is fun and healthy.
TDA’s statewide Farm Fresh initiative encourages schools, child care centers and summer meal sponsors to purchase more local food and create healthy meals that kids enjoy eating. These TDA partners also are encouraged to offer education regarding local food, agriculture and nutrition through classroom lessons, taste-testing, connecting with agricultural producers and garden-based learning. Farm Fresh activities also strengthen local economies.
