Commissioner Miller Alerts Texas Equine Industry of EHV-1 Outbreak
Commissioner Sid Miller and the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) today issued an alert to Texas horsemen of an outbreak of Equine Herpesvirus Type 1 (EHV-1) reported by Texas veterinarians after the recent World Championship Barrel Racing (WPRA) Finals in the Waco area on November 5-9. Commissioner Miller is urging all horse owners, trainers, and venue operators who attended or were in proximity to the event, or who have recently returned from any large equine gathering in the Waco region in the last 14 days to act swiftly, monitor their animals carefully, and implement heightened biosecurity measures.  [More]

Commissioner Miller Praises EPA, US Army Action on Waters of the United States
For too long, DC regulators rolled out fuzzy rules that left folks unsure whether a puddle meant they needed a federal permit or not. That bureaucratic overreach has cost producers time and money. I’m proud to say that shortsightedness has ended under President Trump. I have fought for this type of commonsense solution for years. It’s high time we clarify what constitutes navigable waters and connected wetlands and do it in a way that doesn’t penalize the folks who keep food on our nation’s tables.  [More]

Commissioner Miller Blasts CAIR, Praises Governor Abbott for Designating it a Terrorist Organization
Six weeks ago, I was attacked by the Council for American Islamic Relations (CAIR) for opposing radical Islam and calling them terrorists. I asked they be named a terrorist organization, and I am pleased that Governor Abbott has done so today.  [More]

Commissioner Miller Applauds AgriLife Research Mapping Monarch Migration
Commissioner Sid Miller and the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) today thanked Texas A&M AgriLife, the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for their important collaborative research mapping Monarch butterfly migration along Texas highways. The study, which identifies migration corridors for the Monarch Butterfly, is a welcome example of how sound science, cooperation, and private-land stewardship protect pollinators without burdensome federal overreach.  [More]

Commissioner Miller Proudly Announces $150,000 Donation by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to the STAR Fund
Commissioner of Agriculture Sid Miller today announced a generous $150,000 donation by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to the State of Texas Agriculture Relief (STAR) Fund to bolster ongoing relief efforts for the central Texas agriculture community impacted by the tragic July flooding. STAR Fund applications are still being accepted and will close on November 30th. The donation is part of a larger $500,000 total that the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has donated for flood recovery efforts in the Texas Hill Country.   [More]
