Texas Daily Ag News Market Summary 9/30/15

Feeder cattle auction quoted prices $3 to $20 lower with instances of $5 to $7 higher; futures lower.
Fed cattle cash trade inactive; formula trades higher; futures lower; beef prices lower.
Cotton cash steady; futures lower.
Grains and soybeans mixed.
Crude oil lower; natural gas lower.
Stock markets higher.

 

 

Texas feeder cattle auctions quoted prices $3 to $20 lower, with instances of $5 to $7 higher. Feeder cattle futures were $2.65 lower, closing at $178.17 per hundredweight (cwt). The Texas fed cattle cash trade was inactive yesterday. Wholesale boxed beef values were lower, with Choice grade losing $0.69 and Select grade losing $3.49 settling at $208.62 and $204.20 per cwt, respectively. Estimated cattle harvest for the week totaled 333,000 head, down 3,000 from last week’s total and down 13,000 from a year ago. Year-to-date harvest is down 3.7%. Fed cattle futures were $4.50 lower, closing at $124.67 per cwt.

 

Cotton prices were mixed; with cash prices staying steady at 58.87 cents per pound and futures prices losing 0.63 cents settling 59.42 cents per pound.

 

Corn and grain sorghum prices were lower, with corn cash and futures prices both losing $0.01 settling at $3.98 and $3.88 per bushel, respectively.  Grain sorghum prices lost $0.01 to settle at $6.13 per cwt.

 

Wheat prices were higher with cash prices gaining $0.09 settling at $4.22 per bushel and futures prices gaining $0.07 settling at $5.02 per bushel.

 

Stock markets closed higher yesterday, as investors are looking forward to the third-quarter earnings season. Crude oil prices closed $0.14 lower yesterday, settling at $45.09 per barrel.
