Commissioner Miller Kicks Off National School Lunch Week
Monday, October 9, 2017, Commissioner Miller today announced the start of National School Lunch Week, which runs Oct. 9 to 13, and emphasizes the value of leading healthy lifestyles to Texas students. In partnership with the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), every school day, Texas schools serve approximately 3 million healthy meals through the National School Lunch Program.  [More]
 
Commissioner Miller Kicks Off Annual Local Products Challenge
Tuesday, October 3, 2017, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller announced the return of the Texas Department of Agriculture’s (TDA) annual Local Products Challenge. Each October, school cafeterias work to earn TDA recognition for serving more local products in meals while teaching children about foods grown and raised in Texas. More than 177 school districts and charter schools have pledged participation in this year’s Local Products Challenge. Participating schools will offer more than 2.4 million Texas children a new opportunity to try healthy local foods in the cafeteria.  [More]

Friday, September 29, 2017, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller welcomes visitors to the State Fair of Texas and invites them to stop by the Texas Department of Agriculture’s (TDA) GO TEXAN Pavilion to experience all the ways Texas agriculture impacts our daily lives. The Pavilion is located near the famous Cotton Bowl Stadium in the center of Fair Park. As always, the Pavilion is packed with some of the tastiest food and beverages around, as well as world-class entertainment and shopping.  [More]
 
Commissioner Miller Announces STAR Fund Donations During 2017 State Fair of Texas
Thursday, September 28, 2017, Commissioner Miller announced today that Talley Amusements, the owners of the Texas Star Ferris wheel, and Farm Credit Bank of Texas are teaming up to donate proceeds from this year’s State Fair of Texas to the State of Texas Agriculture Relief (STAR) Fund. Talley Amusements will donate 20 cents of every Ferris wheel ride purchased to the STAR Fund and Farm Credit Bank of Texas is matching the donation.  [More]
