STATEMENT FROM COMMISSIONER SID MILLER PRAISING SECRETARY BROOKE ROLLINS FOR USDA’S LIVESTOCK IMPORTS REOPENING PLAN
"I would like to thank President Trump, USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins, and their team at the USDA for their smart, data-driven decision to reopen U.S. ports to cattle, bison, and equines from Mexico. Agricultural producers and our rural economies depend on this cross-border commerce, and reopening our ports with strong, science-based protocols in place is the right decision. The USDA’s approach balances strong animal health safeguards with the urgent need to get our livestock trade moving again. Hats off to Secretary Rollins for getting this done for our ranchers across the nation."  [More]

STATEMENT FROM TEXAS AGRICULTURE COMMISSIONER SID MILLER ON THE SUPREME COURT’S RULING LIMITING USE OF NATIONWIDE INJUNCTIONS
Today’s Supreme Court decision is a victory for common sense and the rule of law. For too long, partisan judges, particularly those with a far-left agenda, have wielded universal injunctions as a political weapon to unilaterally halt lawful executive actions they personally disagreed with. This ruling rightly reins in that abuse and restores the right to make policy to the elected branches of government. Activist Federal judges in lower courts should not have the unchecked authority to impose sweeping, nationwide rulings that go far beyond the parties involved in a given case.  [More]

STATEMENT FROM TEXAS AGRICULTURE COMMISSIONER SID MILLER ON NEW USDA PERSONNEL APPOINTMENTS
Once again, President Trump and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins hit it out of the park with this latest round of appointments to bolster the leadership at the USDA. Each of these selections continues a deep commitment to agriculture and rural communities that is unparalleled. I am also excited to see that several appointees have ties to Texas and the State's agriculture sector. The Texas Department of Agriculture and I are excited to collaborate with the new members of Secretary Rollins’ team to ensure that Texas and America’s farmers and ranchers are championed and supported at every level.  [More]

STATEMENT FROM TEXAS AGRICULTURE COMMISSIONER SID MILLER ON GOVERNOR ABBOTT’S SCREWWORM RESPONSE TEAM
I’m pleased that Governor Abbott is activating the state agencies under his direct oversight, responsible for protecting animal health and wildlife, to respond to this dire threat. This pest poses a serious risk not only to Texas livestock and wildlife but also to the economic backbone of our rural communities. The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) will continue to work in collaboration with this response team to relay necessary updates as the spread of the New World screwworm approaches Texas.  [More]

COMMISSIONER SID MILLER ALERTS TEXANS TO RISK OF INVASIVE FUNGUS THREATENING TEXAS AGRICULTURE
Today, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller and the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) issued a statewide warning to residents about the threat of head blight (Fusarium graminearum). Left unchecked, this fungal pathogen poses a significant risk to America’s food supply and has raised national concern as a potential bioweapon. Recently, federal authorities charged three Chinese citizens, one of whom is a member of the Chinese Communist Party, with smuggling this fungus into the United States.  [More]

STATEMENT FROM TEXAS AGRICULTURE COMMISSIONER SID MILLER BACKING ABBOTT’S DIRECT RESPONSE TO RADICAL PROTESTERS
I fully support Governor Greg Abbott’s decisive move to deploy 5,000 Texas National Guard members and 2,000 DPS troopers across our state in response to the upcoming anti-ICE and so-called ‘No Kings’ protests. Liberal Austin Mayor Kirk Watson does not speak for the people of Texas and his attacks on Governor Abbott are outrageous. This is about protecting Texans, defending our Capitol and other state facilities, protecting our state employees, and upholding the rule of law. I applaud the Governor for demonstrating true leadership by taking action to protect the public before chaos strikes, rather than responding after the fact. Instead of parroting leftist, Soros-generated talking points and defending those who plan to incite violence, Mayor Watson should apologize to Governor Abbott and all law-abiding Texans and leave public safety matters to the professionals.   [More]
