Pesticide Applicator Reciprocal Agreements

Reciprocity

The Texas Department of Agriculture has agreements to reciprocate pesticide applicator licenses with several states. Applicators who apply for a reciprocal license with TDA must be current and in good standing in their home state. Only Commercial, Non-Commercial and Non-Commercial Political applicators may reciprocate. Applicators must apply to TDA, pay the required license fee, and pass TDA’s General Standards exam. Commercial applicators must prove financial responsibility. Applicators must have passed a similar category test in their originating state to be licensed in that category with TDA. Commercial, Non-Commercial and Non-Commercial Political licenses are valid for a year from the date issued, and applicators must earn five Continuing Education Units each year to keep the licenses current.

To apply, nonresident pesticide applicators should contact their state department of agriculture and request that the applicator's test scores be emailed to Pesticides@TexasAgriculture.gov. The applicator then needs to complete an application for a Commercial Pesticide License or an application for a Non-Commercial / Non-Commercial Political Applicator License and mail it to TDA with the correct fee. The applicator may also apply online on the TDA eApply. The applicator will then need to pass TDA's General Standards exam. TDA has contracted with PSI Services for all applicator exams. Please visit PSI's web site or call 800-733-9267 for availability.

TDA licensed pesticide applicators who wish to reciprocate with another state should contact TDA to have their exam scores sent to that state's department of agriculture. The applicator will then need to contact that state to see what additional tests or requirements are necessary. Please note that TXDOT applicators may not reciprocate.

TDA reciprocates with the states below in most agricultural application categories.  For more specific information on categories, contact TDA at (800) 835-5832 or (512) 463-7622.
