Firewood

Firewood is sold by a measurement called a "cord." A cord must equal 128 cubic feet. The Department conducts measurement inspections to determine if the contents meet or exceed the quantity stated.

Requirement

Businesses offering firewood for wholesale or retail sale must adhere to the Method of Sale regulations outlined in the NIST Handbook 130.  Firewood advertised by a price card, tag, poster or other advertisement are subject to inspection by the Department.

Application Process

There is no application.

TDA Inspection

When a Department inspector conducts an inspection, the company must be in compliance with the Department's package and price verification standards. The Department adopts by reference NIST Handbook 133, and NIST Handbook 130, relating to "Packaging and Labeling Regulations" and "Methods of Sale Regulation." Handbooks 130 and 133 are available upon request from the Superintendent of Documents, United States Government Printing Office, 710 North Capital Street, Washington, D.C. 20402.
