The weight of packages, from cereal boxes to packaged polyethylene sheeting, are verified. Each package is weighed and/or measured to determine if the contents meet or exceed the quantity stated on the label.

Requirement
Businesses offering commodities packaged in advance of wholesale or retail sale and items advertised by a price card, tag, poster or other advertisement are subject to inspection by the Department.

Application Process
There is no application.

TDA Inspection
When a Department inspector conducts an inspection, the company must be in compliance with the Department's package and price verification standards. The Department adopts by reference NIST Handbook 133, and NIST Handbook 130, relating to "Packaging and Labeling Regulations" and "Methods of Sale Regulation." Handbook 130 and 133 are available upon request from the Superintendent of Documents, United States Government Printing Office, 710 North Capital Street, Washington, D.C. 20402.
