Texas Daily Ag Market News Summary 4/6/15

  • Feeder cattle steady to $5 higher; futures higher.

Texas feeder cattle auctions quoted prices steady to $5 higher, with  one location reporting sales of $1 to $2 lower. Feeder cattle futures closed $1.75 higher at $220.38 per hundredweight (cwt). The Texas fed cattle cash trade posted prices of $167 after weeks of inactivity in the state. Wholesale boxed beef values were mixed, with Choice grade closing $0.15 higher at $255.57 per cwt and Select grade down $0.29 to close at 249.92 per cwt. Estimated cattle harvest for the week totaled 514,000 head, down 9K from the previous week and 62K from a year ago. Year-to-date harvest is down 10.6%. Fed cattle futures closed $3.23 higher at $165.03 per cwt.

Cotton cash prices were 1.00 cent higher at 60.88 cents per pound. Futures also settled 1.11 cents higher at 63.69 cents per pound.

Corn and grain sorghum prices were mixed, with corn and futures higher, but grain sorghum cash prices lower. Soybean futures were $0.04 lower, closing at $9.86  per bushel.

Wheat futures prices closed $0.11 higher at $5.83 per bushel, but cash prices lower at $5.13 per bushel.

Stock markets closed higher, with investors trading with the upcoming March jobs report on their minds. Crude oil prices closed $0.250 higher at $50.34 per barrel, maintaining closing prices above $50 per barrel for two consecutive sessions.
