STATEMENT BY COMMISSIONER SID MILLER CALLING FOR THE SECRETARY OF THE INTERIOR TO END ABUSE OF THE FEDERAL ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT
The Endangered Species Act—once a vital tool for genuine conservation—was twisted into a weapon against rural America by the Biden Administration and their radical 30x30 land grab agenda. Time and again, I’ve fought back against their reckless misuse of this law—whether it was the listing of the Lesser Prairie Chicken, the proposed expansion of the Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge, or the current proposed listing of the Monarch Butterfly. These heavy-handed decisions blatantly disregarded the successful, voluntary conservation efforts led by Texas landowners, ranchers, and energy producers. Instead of supporting these initiatives, the federal government chose to punish them, strangling rural economies, overburdening agricultural producers, and sidelining crucial land needed for energy development, all while achieving little to improve outcomes for the species in question.  [More]

COMMISSIONER SID MILLER LEADS CELEBRATIONS OF TEXAS FRUIT AND VEGETABLE DAY
Today, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller recognized Texas Fruit and Vegetable Day in public schools, encouraging students to try healthy local produce and learn more about Texas agriculture. The 88th Texas Legislature established the first Friday in April as Texas Fruit and Vegetable Day in 2023 to promote consumption of local produce during the month; the Legislature established April as Texas Fruit and Vegetable Month in 2007. Increasing students’ awareness of the benefits of eating more fruits and vegetables supports good school nutrition and local agricultural producers.  [More]

STATEMENT BY COMMISSIONER SID MILLER BACKING TRUMP’S LIBERATION DAY ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEW TARIFFS
President Trump doesn’t often hold back—and yesterday was no exception. The world is quickly realizing that in his second term, you either strike a fair deal or face the consequences. These tariffs mark a bold step toward ensuring that American farmers, ranchers, and producers are no longer subjected to unfair trade practices. The goal is clear: to reverse decades of one-sided agreements and secure fair, equitable deals for all U.S. industries—not just agriculture. Our president has proven yet again that he keeps his promises.  [More]

“I’m proud to serve our state’s farmers, ranchers, and rural communities. It has been an honor, and I love this job. Agriculture isn’t just the backbone of Texas—it’s the lifeblood of our economy, communities, and way of life. Whether you live in rural, suburban, or urban Texas, agriculture impacts your daily life, and the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) works for you. As your Commissioner, I’ve been Texas agriculture’s loudest and proudest advocate—at home and across the globe—championing Texas-grown products and Texas-owned businesses every step of the way. Over the last decade, we’ve made significant strides by cutting red tape, expanding markets, protecting consumers, and making TDA stronger than ever.   [More]
