STATEMENT FROM TEXAS AGRICULTURE COMMISSIONER SID MILLER ON CARTEL VIOLENCE NEAR THE TEXAS-MEXICO BORDER
Tuesday, February 25, 2025, A tragic and alarming incident occurred near Brownsville, Texas, where a U.S. citizen and  Texas rancher was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED). This shocking act of violence highlights the growing threat posed by cartel activity along our southern border. I urge all Texas farmers, ranchers, and agricultural workers who travel to Mexico or operate near the border to exercise extreme caution. The Lower Rio Grande Valley (LRGV) is a crucial part of Texas agriculture, and the safety of our agricultural community is of utmost importance. We cannot overlook the rising violence that threatens not only lives but also the security of our farms, ranches, and rural communities.  [More]

STATEMENT FROM COMMISSIONER SID MILLER THANKING USDA SECRETARY BROOKE ROLLINS AFTER HER VISIT TO TEXAS
Monday, February 24, 2025, I want to thank United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brooke Rollins for hosting a productive roundtable this afternoon in Mt. Pleasant with Texas farmers and ranchers. The discussion focused on the ongoing impact of avian influenza and potential improvements to the national response. Secretary Rollins’ swift action in organizing these discussions—just days into her tenure—illustrates her passion for the agriculture industry and her commitment to our producers in rural Texas. I am excited for our continued collaboration to support Texas agriculture and the hardworking producers who depend on our efforts.  [More]

STATEMENT FROM TEXAS AGRICULTURE COMMISSIONER SID MILLER ON SENATE BILL 17’S PROPOSAL TO BAN ENEMY FOREIGN LAND OWNERSHIP
Monday, February 24, 2025, I have long fought to ensure that our precious farm and rural lands remain free from purchases by foreign adversaries. Our property and agricultural lands are vital to national security. I applaud Senator Lois Kolkhorst for introducing Senate Bill 17, an essential piece of legislation aimed at protecting Texas land from foreign entities that pose a threat to our security. This is simply common sense. Texas farmers and ranchers work tirelessly to feed and fuel America, and we must preserve our land for their use. We cannot allow hostile nations to gain control over our land, resources, or food supply.  [More]

STATEMENT BY TEXAS AGRICULTURE COMMISSIONER SID MILLER BLASTING BIDEN ADMINISTRATION'S “DIETARY GUIDELINES”
Friday, February 21, 2025, The Biden administration’s so-called ‘scientific’ report for the 2025 Dietary Guidelines is nothing more than a politically driven attack on American agriculture. This is just a continuation of the woke left’s war on the meat industry due to climate change nonsense and feel-good dietary agendas. They claim their recommendations are ‘science-backed’ and ‘data-driven,’ but if that were true, why does their report ignore the overwhelming evidence that beef is good for you and essential to a balanced diet?  [More]
