Commissioner Miller Calls For New Farm Bill to Tackle Looming Food Supply and Affordability Crisis
Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Americans cannot afford to keep kicking the can down the road. While the Big Beautiful Bill and other targeted aid have been an enormous help, a new farm bill is the best solution to support farmers and ranchers and prevent higher grocery prices for consumers. If Washington fails to act, the national farm economy and the food supply that it’s reliant on is in danger of a full-blown crisis, and it will make an already brutal affordability problem even worse for families across this country.    [More]

Commissioner Miller Calls for Heifer Tax Credit to Bolster U.S. Cattle Supply, Lower Beef Prices
Tuesday, February 3, 2026, The way we lower beef prices and restore affordability is by putting American beef first. That starts with rebuilding our cattle herd. I’m calling for a Heifer Retention Tax Credit, modeled after the Child Tax Credit, that would allow cow-calf operators to receive a tax credit for retaining heifers and expanding their herds. This policy would be the most direct way to help rebuild our national herd, increase beef production, and ultimately bring relief to American families at the grocery store.  [More]

Commissioner Miller Responds to Governor Abbott’s Statewide New World Screwworm Disaster Declaration
Thursday, January 29, 2026, I’m glad to see the urgency from the governor’s office matching the seriousness of this threat. The Governor’s disaster declaration gives his task force greater authority, resources, and speed needed to confront the growing threat posed by the New World screwworm. This is a serious risk to our livestock industry and one that the Texas Department of Agriculture has been preparing for through our own heightened surveillance, coordination, and response planning. The New World screwworm is inching closer to Texas each and every day, and we must be proactive in responding to this threat. This fight requires every available resource to be thrown at it without delay, and TDA will continue to work alongside our state and federal partners to protect our livestock, pets, wildlife, and Texas communities.  [More]

Commissioner Miller Praises Pause in Federal Equine Overreach
Thursday, January 29, 2026, As someone who has spent a lifetime around horses and as Texas Agriculture Commissioner, I welcome USDA-APHIS’s decision to postpone implementation of the Horse Protection Act amendments. Folks who work with horses understand that animal welfare and common sense must go hand in hand.  [More]
